White Bear Woman (formerly known as Georgina Lightning)
White Bear Woman has been a trailblazing figure in the film industry with over 34 years of
experience in Hollywood. In 1990, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream in Hollywood
and continues to live out that dream with her family, now residing in Amiswaciwâskahikan
(Edmonton) in Treaty 6 territory.
An accomplished actor, director, producer, and advocate for Indigenous representation in film. A
graduate of the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts, White Bear Woman is
renowned for her critically acclaimed feature film Older Than America, which has won 23
awards, including the White House EPIC Award for creating social change. The film played a
pivotal role in Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation efforts.
As a founding member of TAPS (Tribal Alliance Productions) and Native Media Network, White
Bear Woman has championed diversity and inclusion across the arts. She has served on
numerous boards, juries, and panels, addressing topics such as Indigenous narratives,
transgenerational trauma, and breaking stereotypes in Hollywood.
Dedicated to “Making Alberta the Indigenous Film Capital of the World,” White Bear Woman
continues to build the economy and capacity for a thriving film industry in Alberta. Her passion
lies in socially impactful projects, including a docu-drama trilogy exploring healing from
generational trauma. Her unwavering commitment to storytelling and advocacy has solidified
her as a powerful voice for Indigenous communities worldwide.
